The Premier League season is restarting this week as Manchester United’s young winger Angel Gomes‘s future is set to be decided in the next two weeks.
The 19-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the month, while United have extended a long-term offer.
Currently reports are saying that no discussions have been held between Gomes and the club regarding a short-term extension that would allow him to continue playing for the team during the final weeks of the season. That means Gomes can leave on July 1st, despite the season still going on.
If Gomes signs on the dotted line, he will reportedly be set to earn in the region of £25,000-a-week.
That will be a touch under fellow academy graduate Tahith Chong‘s reported £30,000 weekly pay packet after the Dutch winger renewed his deal in March.
United will be frustrated to lose a young player for free. Gomes has been highly thought of at Old Trafford for many years, and as they experienced with Paul Pogba, it can be an expensive mistake to make.
Whether Gomes pens a new deal or not, short-term or otherwise, remains to be seen. But with his contract expiring on June 30th, a decision will come in the next two weeks
