Naira Marley Arrested For Flouting Interstate Travel Ban When He Flew To Abuja For His Concert

Nigerian singer Azeez Fashola popularly called Naira Marley has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for flouting interstate travel ban when he flew to Abuja via a private jet for his now-infamous drive-by concert.

The music star was on Thursday, August 6, 2020, arrested and arraigned before the Lagos State Special Offences Court at Ikeja for violating the order banning interstate travels which had been earlier put in place to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The Lagos state police command spokesperson, Bala Elkana told newsmen that Marley presented himself at the command headquarters.

“We are in court as we speak. He will be arraigned for violating the interstate travel order. That is the aspect that concerns Lagos State,” Elkana said.

Controversy trailed the rapper’s drive-by concert in Abuja in June which landed the popular Jabi Lake mall which hosted the event and Executive Jets Services, the airline which lifted him from Lagos in trouble.

Jabi Lake mall was sealed for two weeks by Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Ministerial Task Team on COVID-19 for hosting the drive-by concert while Executive Jets Services had their license temporarily withdrawn.

Naira’s concert was advertised as a drive-in event but several videos emerged on social media which showed people dancing together.

This will be the second time the singer will be facing the court for flouting the lockdown orders.

The 29-year-old music star was one of the persons arrested and tried in court for attending a birthday party hosted at the home of veteran actress Funke Akindele in April.

He was, however, pardoned by the Lagos state government after writing an apology letter.
