A Non Governmental Organization, John Gbor Foundation has empowered about three hundred youths and women in various skills acquisition programmes.
The Founder of the Organization, Retired Major General John Gbor made this known while speaking with newsmen in Abuja.
According to Retired Major General the youths were trained on Information Communication Technology, ICT and solar energy while the women benefited from the training on fashion designing, soap making, catering among others.
He said the gesture was part of the Foundation’s objective of creating employment opportunities, reduce hunger and poverty and making youths and women contribute to the economic development of both Benue State and the country in general.
The Founder of the Foundation who said the empowerment programme would be sustained, explained that plans were already on ground to train more youths in Benue State and FCT on renewable energy to reduce the challenges of electricity in the country.
Retired Major General Gbor stated that the Foundation was already collaborating with some International Organizations on ways of making Nigerian youths and women self reliant and employers of labour.
He therefore solicited the support of well meaning Nigerians and corporate organizations to enable the Foundation realize its objectives.
While advising the beneficiaries of the training to always practice what they learnt, Retired Major General Gbor stressed the need for government at all levels to give more priority to programmes that would further empower youths and women across the country.
