“Stop Dragging the First Lady into AKSU mud” …Oruk Anam stakeholders caution Prof Eno Ibanga

… Demand an Immediate Apology to Dr (Mrs) Martha Udom Emmanuel.

… Calls on Akwa Ibom State Governor to Intervene.

Stakeholders in Oruk Anam Local Government Area have reacted so bitterly to a recent publication in the Ink Newspaper of Tuesday, July 7, 2020 allegedly sponsored by Prof Eno Ibanga, the outgoing Vice Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU).

The publication which attempted to drag the first Lady Her Excellency Dr Martha Udom Emmanuel into the ongoing AKSU Vice Chancellorship Mud/drama has drawn the attention of stakeholders of the 2nd host community of the institution.

Rt. Hon. Sunny Udom

Speaking through one of the Leaders, Rt. Hon. Sunny Udom, a former Federal House of Representatives Member, former Governorship campaign Manager, former PDP Chairman Ikot Ekpene senatorial District, former Chairman Oruk Anam LGA, a reputable Estate Surveyor & Valuer and a political leader who hails from Ekparakwa (ward 7) in Oruk Anam LGA. He condemned in totality the action of Prof. Eno Ibanga’s and his cohorts attempts to tarnish the hard earned reputation of their amiable daughter and sister, Dr. Martha Udom Emmanuel, the wife of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

In his words “I called you here because of something very annoying and painful to us. At the front page of the Ink Newspaper of Tuesday July 7, 2020, we found an insulting publication against her Excellency, the wife of the Governor who is also our daughter and sister Dr Martha Udom Emmanuel. We take great exception to such attempts. A lot of things said in that publication are not true”.

He further stated that“the true situation is that the demand made by Oruk Anam people is not out of place or borne out of ethnicity as claimed. The first lady has done absolutely nothing wrong to deserve this embarrassment from Prof Eno Ibanga. Our demand is based on the precedent that during the administration of His Excellency, Chief Godswill Akpabio, Mkpat Enin people made a request that since they are the host of the institution, the next Vice Chancellor after Prof. Sunday Peters from Etinan in Uyo Senatorial District should be an indigene of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area and their demand was granted in the person of Prof Eno Ibanga being appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the institution”.

“The expectations and demands of Oruk Anam people are very simple and clear since the institution is located in two campuses (Mkpat Enin and Oruk Anam) hence,  we believe that the next Vice Chancellor after Prof Eno Ibanga should come from Oruk Anam. We have many qualified persons from Oruk Anam who can man the office very perfectly. One needs to go through the CV of Professor Godwin Udom from University of Port Harcourt who was mentioned in the write up. He is eminently qualified and capable, having being Dean of Faculties and therefore, our demand is neither sentimental nor ethnic”

“Uyo Senatorial District had their turn who was Prof. Sunday Peters, Eket Senatorial District had theirs in Prof Eno Ibanga from Mkpat Enin as the host community, thus, Ikot Ekpene senatorial district should take their turn and Oruk Anam LGA as the other host community should be given opportunity to also produce next Vice Chancellor for the institution“ he emphasized.

“The Oruk Anam Stakeholders therefore demand an immediate apology from Prof Eno Ibanga to Her Excellency, Dr Martha Udom Emmanuel and also to Oruk Anam people for such unguarded utterances and behaviour, while condemning in totality words used in the said publication”

Another lie embedded in the said publication is that Annang people persuaded the Pro chancellor Eng Sam Inyang to step down so as to pave way for an Annang Vice Chancellor which they swore that it is impossible for the two officers to come from one ethnic group. They found it convenient to forget that during the tenure of Prof Peters from Etinan LGA the Pro chancellor was Obong Asuquo Udofia from Nsit Ibom LGA in Ibibio nation. Even to show their confused state of mind of Prof Eno Ibanga’s cohorts, they have also stated in the same publication that they will install Prof Nse Essien the current Commissioner for Education to succeed the present Vice Chancellor forgetting that Prof Essien is from Amanyam clan in Ikot Ekpene and Eng Sam Inyang is also from Ikot Ekpene LGA, one local government in Annang land.

Yet another lie is the issue of ethnicity.  If the truth must be told, it is Prof Eno Ibanga who the Oruk Anam host community has accused of ethnic bias because of his effort to close-down the Obio Akpa campus starting from the transfer of the Faculty of Education to Ikot Akpaden campus and the massive termination of the appointment of mostly Annang staff.

Also the managerial structure of AKSU under Prof. Eno Ibanga where 2 Deputy Vice Chancellors, Registrar, Bursar, etc are from his ethnic group. We believe that we need a forensic audit in AKSU to unveil the ethnic disposition of Prof Eno Ibanga in running the institution.

Honourable Udom on behalf of the stakeholders therefore warned Prof Eno Ibanga to be careful of how he is misusing a public office hence his case may be similar to or even worse than the present trauma of Ibrahim Magu of EFCC, whenever a forensic audit of the institution is carried out.

The stakeholders however call on the State Governor His Excellency Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel to intervene in the matter so that justice will be given to Oruk Anam people, noting that “what is good for the goose is also good for the gander”. The Stakeholders pledged to resist any attempt to marginalize Oruk Anam people or deny them of their right. They also pledged unalloyed loyalty and support to the administration of their son in-law, Deacon Udom Emmanuel and maintained that they are not in doubt whatsoever that His Excellency will do the needful.

  1. I saw this coming but I reserved my comments as everything has turned politics which is egregious.
Public officer image tarnisher was severely punished and so the needful should be done as no one is above the law and to serve as warning to others.
